Samantha is a politico, lawyer, manager, writer, and budding public speaker. She has spent her career working in politics—on campaigns, in government, in the law, in the California water industry, and in violence prevention. At the Association of ESD Professionals, Samantha is excited to be leading a team that is working hard to build an institution that will support ESD practitioners and advocates, people from all walks of life who spend their days making the lives of strangers a little bit better. She hopes that her work to broaden and strengthen the reach of empowerment self-defense will help prevent violence around the world. Never one to follow a conventional path, Samantha started her career at a boutique law firm in Los Angeles doing campaign-finance and election law, but the pull of political campaigns was too strong to resist when she met mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa. For eight years, she worked for Villaraigosa where her speechwriting, staffing, debate prep, and program development work made her a part of of history (the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles in 133 years, a kid from Boyle Heights making good and doing good, inspiring many). She has worked on other campaigns, as well, such as a California treasurer race, Hillary Clinton for President, the Kennedy-seat race in Massachusetts, and more. And for several years, she was a proud member of the California water industry where she managed, lawyered, and schmoozed. Samantha’s passion is politics because she sees it as a means to making the world a better place. Samantha is a Jersey girl with her heart in California who loves the history and beauty of Washington, DC and the pastoral green of North Carolina. --- Association of ESD Professionals Website: www.esdprofessionals.org (look for a new look on their website in the coming weeks!)
